Edinburgh & Manchester
Deloitte
Deloitte’s workplace designs in Edinburgh and Manchester demonstrated how local culture and character can be thoughtfully integrated into modern office environments, creating spaces that resonate deeply with their surroundings.
The design concept for Deloitte’s Edinburgh office blended the workplace with its local surroundings, particularly the vibrant Haymarket area, known for its bustling streets, historic landmarks, and cultural significance. Inspired by the city’s landmarks, the design incorporated metal rods symbolising the connection to the Forth Bridge, establishing a visual link between the workspace and Edinburgh’s heritage. Additionally, we incorporated a tartan into the design, aligning with Deloitte’s colour scheme and featured in locally sourced cushions, reinforcing a strong connection to Scottish culture.
Similarly, the design of Deloitte’s Manchester office drew heavily from the city’s industrial heritage and character. Inspired by iconic symbols such as Manchester’s worker bee and its industrial legacy, the design featured metal accents, exposed materials, and industrial-style teapoints with metal frames, connecting the workplace to its urban roots.
The Edinburgh project required adjustments during the design phase, to meet evolving needs .In response, our team demonstrated flexibility and adaptability by reallocating furniture and repurposing existing items, reducing waste and improving efficiency.
The Manchester office spans multiple floors, each tailored to specific purposes. The eighth floor serves as a client hub, while the sixth and seventh floors focus on employees. While layouts are consistent for practicality, the finishes vary across each floor, incorporating subtle green, orange, and purple tones. This palette injects fresh energy, striking a balance between individuality and cohesion across the floors.
Both workplaces now serve as versatile environments, accommodating diverse working styles, promoting productivity, enhancing employee satisfaction, and staying adaptable for future needs.
Accessibility was paramount. Every workstation is equipped with adjustable heights, enabling users to personalise their desks to suit their specific requirements, while ensuring full accessibility for wheelchair users. To further support inclusivity, team tables are also height-adjustable. Task chairs were selected for their comprehensive ergonomic features, including adjustable seat height, depth, lumbar support, and 3D arm movement. Gas-lift monitor arms simplify screen positioning, ensuring accessibility across all work areas.
Deloitte’s commitment to inclusivity extends to neurodiverse employees. To foster a welcoming environment, materials and colours were carefully selected to create a calming and comfortable space. Soft, earthy tones were used, avoiding overstimulating colours such as red or yellow. This deliberate choice promotes focus and concentration while fostering a tranquil environment.
In the nursing room, where privacy and comfort are paramount, a dimmable floor-standing light allows users to adjust lighting to their needs, enhancing adaptability and support.
